The dark, deep waters off the coast of Australia are where nightmares brewed for directors of the New Wave movement. Brutality, comedy, exploitation, and aquatic creature features, gave way to the term "ozploitation". Coined to describe the boom of lower budget horror films coming out during the 1970s to 1980s. The success of these projects paved the way for Australia's current horror scene which has added layers of isolation, desolation, and psychological twists.
