This month, we celebrate Sally’s 10th anniversary as a circulation clerk at Edwardsville Public Library! For a decade, Sally has been a steady, reliable presence at the front lines of library service. Whether it’s the post-storytime rush or the bustle after a big youth event, Sally stays calm under pressure and brings a sense of compassion and care to every interaction. She consistently goes out of her way to support both patrons and co-workers, making our library a warmer, more welcoming place for all. Thank you, Sally, for everything you do!

In what part of the library do you work and what do you do?
You may see me behind the circulation desk in both the adult and youth sections of the library. My official title is circulation clerk.
What has changed the most since you started working here?
Change is always happening, but many of those are behind the scenes. We have had physical changes with our remodel a few years ago. I love the addition of our teen room downstairs. It’s great to have a designated space for them. COVID brought the start of curb side pick-up which has been a great addition to the services we offer.
What services offered at the library do you wish more people knew about?
We have so many online resources available to our patrons. Click on our resource tab and check them out. You can find anything from recipes from around the world to standardized test prep. My personal favorite is Novelist. It helps you find books that may be of interest to you.
What has kept you working at the library?
My answer to this question is the same as 5 years ago. Everything about the library keeps me here--the great staff, the patrons, the lovely building.
If you could have coffee with any author, who would you choose?
I think at this point in my life I would like to sit down with C.S. Lewis and hear about his personal journey.
Do you have a book character role model?
This is a hard question to answer, but I am going with Pippi Longstocking. I wanted to be Pippi. She was so adventurous and independent, and she had a pet monkey and a horse! What more could an 8-year-old girl want?
What is your favorite book that you’ve read in the past year?
This is an easy question to answer because I am reading it right now. I am obsessed with the beauty of Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury. I keep re-reading sentences and admiring the absolute genius of his prose.
What is the first book you remember reading?
My Little Golden Book About God. I was very, very young and had this book in the car as we made the very long car ride from Chicago to Denver to see my grandparents. I drew the short straw and was squeezed in between my parents in the front seat while my brothers had the back seat. I remember looking at Eloise Wilkins illustrations over and over and over. I still love her illustrations. I also remember Blueberries for Sal by Robert McCloskey. It felt special having my name in a book.
Do you have a favorite book genre?
I like to read a bit of everything, although I don’t read horror anymore.
