Logan has been one of the most steadfast of our employees. If you’ve called the Library in the last five years, odds are you have spoken to Logan and experienced his wonderful phone answering skills. He has written many blog posts for the library's website with books he thinks others would like or he feels are important. He loves to run the Library’s Dungeons and Dragons monthly game, as well as picking out items for our monthly displays. Logan makes the library a fun and vibrant place to visit. In what part of the library do you work and what do you do?
I work at the Circulation Desk. I check patrons in and out, help them find books, and help them with simple technical issues. I also shelve books and other items.
What originally drew you to work at the library?
I’ve always loved libraries. Being able to get any book I wanted and enter a whole new world as I read it was something I absolutely loved. When I graduated from high school I saw a job posting for the Edwardsville Public Library, and despite not thinking it especially likely I’d get the job, I thought it was worth applying. I’m incredibly grateful that I did, in fact, get the job and have had 5 great years working at EPL.
What’s one moment that made you feel especially proud to work here?
It’s hard to limit it down to one moment. The times I feel proud to work here are when a patron tells me how much they love the library, or appreciate the services we offer. Knowing that we serve a valuable role in this community is a wonderful feeling.
What project or initiative have you loved being part of?
I have had the privilege of running our Library Dungeons & Dragons games. I genuinely look forward to preparing and running them each month. I get the opportunity to meet great people, and sometimes I even get to introduce them to a game that I love.
How has your role evolved over the years?
When I started working here I was a Page, which meant that my main role was shelving books and retrieving patron holds. After I did that for quite a while, I was eventually trained to be a Circulation Clerk, which is what I do now.
Favorite book, author, or genre you’ve discovered while working here?
Brandon Sanderson. I hadn’t heard of him until about a year ago, when multiple of my coworkers started telling me I should give him a try. When I finally got around to starting his books, he quickly became one of my favorite authors. I’m now trying to work my way through his whole Cosmere universe of books, and so far my favorite books I’ve read by him were Mistborn Era II.
Looking ahead, what are you excited to see or do in the future here?
I’ve been running Dungeons & Dragons here for a while, but I’d like to start diversifying the games we run in the not too distant future. I am particularly interested in running Pirate Borg; I just need to find the time to sit down and familiarize myself with the system.
What does hitting this anniversary mean to you?
I’ve genuinely loved my time working at Edwardsville Public Library for the past 5 years. This library is one of my favorite places in the world, and I am eternally grateful for the time I have been able to spend here so far
