"Getting Your Kicks: Memories of Route 66" Writing Contest

Published Monday, February 6, 2023

Attention all would-be Kerouacs! The Edwardsville Public Library and the Edwardsville Story Project are partnering to host a writing contest this spring and our theme is "road trips." We want to hear your best road trip story, whether you were traveling on the "Mother Road" Route 66 or any of America's highways and byways. Have you ever gotten lost and taken a crazy detour? Ever visited one of our country's quirky roadside attractions, like the world's largest ball of twine in Darwin, Minnesota? Tell us about it!

Entries must be original work, describing a personal experience, and must be one thousand words or less. Share your adventure with us by Friday, April 7 to enter. Please send your submissions by using the online entry form below. Each winner will receive a gift card to Afterwords Books and have their essay read at a reception on Sunday, June 11 at 2 pm at the library.

About the Author

Michael's ideal reading environment is a noisy pub on karaoke night, his nose buried in a Stephen King novel, his elbows buried in a deep-dish pizza, and a drunk idiot belting Journey in his ear. Ahhh…so cozy.
