When did you start working at EPL?
I started working at EPL March 2025.
Earliest memory of being in a library?
I remember scouring the Collinsville children’s library section regularly with my mom. I was an early reader and devoured books. My goal was to read all the books in the library one day. What I didn’t realize was that books were continually written and added to the library. It would be an impossible task for a single lifetime! But, it was a cute goal.
Favorite book genre/favorite book/favorite author
That’s a tough one. I like to read so many different genres, but my favorite recently has been fantasy. Brandon Sanderson is a legend. I have enjoyed every book I’ve read from him so far. I also truly, deeply loved the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas.
Would you rather only be able to whisper or only able to shout?
Whisper. I don’t know why, that’s just my instant gut reaction to the question.
What is your favorite aspect of working at the library?
I have a unique role at the library since I get to come up with crafts and also do a lot of crafting to help decorate for various events and programs. My role is my favorite thing. I love creating! I love crafting! And I love seeing the joy on the kids’ faces when they see the cardboard castle I built. Or the crayons!
What’s your favorite word?
Faff is my current obsession, but you have to say it with a British accent or it doesn’t really work properly. It is, indeed, a British slang term used to describe a situation that’s unnecessarily complicated. Here’s an example of a sentence I frequently use: “It’s a bit of a faff, innit?” ;P
How do you like to spend your time outside of work?
When I’m not working, I like to read!!! Shocker! I also enjoy spending time with my family, wood-working, playing video games, and attending the many concerts of my musically-inclined kids.
Would you rather talk like Yoda or breathe like Darth Vader for the rest of your life?
Talk like Yoda, I would definitely.
Why should people visit the library?
Libraries are a treasure trove of knowledge, fun events, and resources. There are always so many interesting events and programs going on. More so than I realized before I started working here. You can simply come and sit; enjoy the view out of the beautiful windows. You can learn something new or test out your creativity at one of our programs. And perhaps find some camaraderie in the process. I think our motto could be something like “Come for the books, leave with a friend.” ;)
