With My Library Card, I Can: Play, Discover, and Learn

Published Monday, September 30, 2019

Most of our "With My Library Card, I Can:" posts have so far focused on the adult collection. This one is for the kids. The Edwardsville Public Library has a robust and energetic youth department. We have things you would probably expect a library to have like great story times and copies of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, but we also circulate some items that might surprise you.

American Girl Dolls

The library circulates 16 different American Girl Dolls as well as some of the dolls' accessories. We have: Addy, Caroline, Cecile, Felicity, Isabelle, Josefina, Julie, Kaya, Kirsten, Luciana (pictured), Marie-Grace, Maryellen, Melody, Molly, Rebecca, and Samantha.

Not being an aficionado, I have no idea what that list of names means but my guess is your young one probably knows exactly who they are.

Science Discovery Kits

Do you have a little explorer? We have some really great kits about future careers in the sciences for ages 4 and up. The kit pictured is titled I am an Entomologist. It includes science supplies similar to what real entomologists use to study insects including insect specimens, tweezers, magnifying glass, and bug examiner.

We have several similar kits that let kids pretend to be an Architect, a Botanist, a Chemist, a Marine Biologist, or a Paleontologist.

Our kits are stored right next to the staircase that leads in to the youth library.
